Man and Van in Kensington & Chelsea

Careful, properly equipped moves for mansion-block flats, mews houses and tight period stairs, from the King's Road to Ladbroke Grove, with one driver throughout.

★★★★★ 5.0 on Google ULEZ-compliant vans Goods-in-transit insured Same-day available

Kensington & Chelsea is one of London's grandest and most tightly packed boroughs, and that mix shapes every move. There's the white-stucco elegance of South Kensington and Cadogan Square (SW3, SW7), the boutiques and Saturday crowds of the King's Road, the Edwardian flats of Earl's Court (SW5), and the painted terraces and antique stalls of Notting Hill and Portobello (W11) running up into the busier streets of North Kensington and Ladbroke Grove (W10). People here move a single statement piece as often as a whole flat, and a nimble local man and van handles both far better than a full removals lorry.

We're across the borough most weeks, collecting an armchair from a Pimlico Road dealer, moving a one-bed from Earl's Court to Chelsea, helping a student into a South Ken house-share near Imperial College, or clearing a flat at the end of a tenancy off Kensington Church Street. Every job is door to door with the same vetted driver, your goods are covered by goods-in-transit insurance, and we're rated 5.0 on Google. The rate is the same everywhere we go: £30 per hour plus £1.50 per mile, a £50 minimum, no hidden fees.

The properties we move every week

Three building types dominate here, and each has its own quirks. The red-brick and stucco mansion blocks around Cadogan Square, Sloane Avenue and Earl's Court Road usually have one small period lift that won't take a three-seater sofa or a tall wardrobe, so we plan a stair carry from the start. The cobbled mews houses off Kynance Mews and the streets behind Pont Street are charming but narrow, with steep internal stairs and no room for two vehicles to pass. And the tall terraced conversions of Notting Hill and South Ken mean upper-floor flats reached by elegant but unforgiving staircases. We come with blankets, straps and the tools to dismantle and rebuild, just tell us the floor and the access when you book.

Moving in Kensington & Chelsea: kerbs, red routes and timing

Parking is the make-or-break factor here. The King's Road, Cromwell Road and the A4 run as red routes where you cannot stop at all, so we work to the nearest loading window on a side street and, for larger moves, arrange a council removals dispensation a few days in advance. The mews off Kynance Mews and Pont Street take one careful van at a time. The eastern Knightsbridge sliver of the borough by Sloane Street sits inside the Congestion Charge zone, so a weekday daytime move right on that edge can attract the daily charge, the rest of K&C does not. And every August, the Notting Hill Carnival closes much of W10 and W11 for the bank-holiday weekend, so we book moves there for the days either side. Whatever the address, the whole borough is inside the ULEZ and our vans are fully compliant.

Kensington & Chelsea man and van FAQs

Can you move furniture in a mansion block with a small lift?

Yes, and it's a daily job here. The red-brick mansion blocks around Cadogan Square, Sloane Avenue and Earl's Court Road often have a single period lift that won't take a sofa or a tall wardrobe. We measure up, dismantle what needs to come apart, and carry the rest up the stairs by hand. Tell us the floor and whether there's a porter or a booked goods lift and we'll plan around it.

Where can the van park on the King's Road or a Chelsea mews?

The King's Road and much of the A4/Cromwell Road run as red routes with no stopping, and the cobbled mews off streets like Kynance Mews and Pont Street are narrow with residents' bays only. We use the nearest single-yellow loading window or side street and, for bigger moves, can arrange a removals parking dispensation from the council a few days ahead. Send the exact address and we'll sort the kerbside before the day.

Is any part of Kensington & Chelsea in the Congestion Charge zone?

Just the eastern edge. The Knightsbridge corner of the borough by Sloane Street falls inside the Congestion Charge zone, so a weekday daytime move right there can attract the daily charge. The rest, Notting Hill, Chelsea, South Kensington, Earl's Court and North Kensington, sits outside it. The whole borough is inside the ULEZ, but our vans are ULEZ-compliant so there's no emission charge to pass on.

Do you cover Notting Hill during the carnival weekend?

We cover Notting Hill, Ladbroke Grove and North Kensington (W10, W11) all year, but the August bank-holiday Notting Hill Carnival closes a large area to traffic for the weekend. If you're moving around then, book early and we'll schedule for the days either side or work to a collection point outside the road closures.

How much does a man and van in Kensington & Chelsea cost?

It's £30 per hour plus £1.50 per mile, with a £50 minimum and no hidden fees, the same across SW3, SW5, SW7, SW10, W8, W10 and W11. Your belongings are covered by goods-in-transit insurance and the same vetted driver handles the whole job door to door. Tell us the addresses and what's moving for a free quote.
